We do not collect, transmit, store on a server, sell or share any information about you. Everything you record in Nightfield stays in an encrypted database on your own device and is deleted when you clear it or uninstall the app.

2Data Collection
Nightfield collects no data whatsoever. The application contains no analytics SDK, no crash-reporting service, no advertising identifier and no telemetry of any kind.
We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, location, device identifiers, usage statistics or any other personal or device information. There is no server operated by us that the application communicates with.
3Data Usage
All information you enter — observations, notes, equipment, observing sites, tags, goals and preferences — is processed entirely on your device. Statistics, charts, streaks and catalogue-completion figures are calculated locally from your own records.
Because this processing never leaves the device, we have no ability to read, analyse or access what you record.
4Data Sharing
We share nothing, because we receive nothing. No data is sold, rented, disclosed to advertisers, or transferred to any third party, affiliate, or government body.
If you choose to use the Export feature, the resulting file is handed to the Android share sheet and you decide its destination. That transfer is initiated and controlled entirely by you.
5Data Security
Your observation log is stored in a local database encrypted with AES-256. The encryption key is generated on your device on first launch and held in the Android system keystore via encrypted secure storage. Application preferences are stored using the same secure storage mechanism.
Because no data is transmitted, there is no network interception risk and no server-side breach that could expose your records.
6Data Retention
Your data is retained on your device for exactly as long as you want it. It is removed when you:
- Delete individual entries within the app;
- Use Settings → Clear all data; or
- Uninstall the application, which removes all of its local storage.
We retain nothing, as we never receive anything.
7No User Accounts
Nightfield has no registration, no sign-in, no password and no user profile. There are no credentials to be lost or stolen, and no identity is ever associated with your records.
8Children's Privacy (COPPA)
Nightfield does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Since the application collects no data from any user of any age, it is inherently compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act.
The application is not directed at children and is not enrolled in the Google Play "Designed for Families" programme.
9Your Rights
Because your data never leaves your device, you exercise every data right directly and immediately, without needing to contact us:
- Access & portability — export your complete log as JSON or CSV at any time.
- Rectification — edit or correct any entry directly in the app.
- Erasure — delete individual entries, clear all data from Settings, or uninstall.
- Objection & restriction — not applicable; no processing occurs off-device.
10No Third-Party Services
Nightfield integrates no third-party analytics, advertising networks, social media SDKs, cloud storage, payment processors, or backend services. The astronomical reference catalogue is bundled inside the application and is never fetched over a network.
11Permissions
Nightfield requests exactly one Android permission:

Our Google Play Data Safety declaration states: no data collected and no data shared. This is accurate and complete — the application has no mechanism by which data could be collected or shared.

If this policy is ever updated, the revised version will be published at this address with a new "last updated" date. Because the application collects no data, any change would concern clarification rather than a change in data practice.

15Legal Compliance
Nightfield is compliant with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), and the Google Play Developer Programme Policies. Compliance is structural rather than procedural: there is no personal data processing to regulate.
Under GDPR terminology, no personal data is collected, so no lawful basis for processing is required and no Data Protection Officer is appointed. Under CCPA, we do not sell or share personal information, as none is collected.
